Vail announces state-of-the-art snowmaking upgrades at Park City Mountain

The enhancements include new automated snowmaking systems on Another World and automated snowguns on Chicane, facilitating earlier openings for these runs ahead of the holiday season.

PARK CITY, Utah — Vail Resorts announced plans on Dec. 7 for significant upgrades to Park City Mountain Resort’s snowmaking infrastructure for the 2024/25 winter season, aiming to enhance early season terrain offerings and consistency.

The enhancements include new automated snowmaking systems on Another World and automated snowguns on Chicane, facilitating earlier openings for these runs ahead of the holiday season.

Deirdra Walsh, Vice President and COO, stated, “These investments in our snowmaking system are aimed at improving the guest experience, increasing early season terrain availability, and enhancing energy efficiency in our operations.”

The upgrades focus on energy efficiency, integrating solar-powered snow guns and utilizing about 70% low-e guns, which operate during optimal temperature conditions.

Additionally, Vail Resorts, in collaboration with the Canyons Village Management Association, plans to replace the Sunrise lift with a new 10-person gondola in 2025. This project is pending permitting and local government approval.
