PARK CITY, Utah — Chances are that if you ski in North America you have not only seen James Niehues work, but you have spent hours staring at it and memorizing it.

Niehues, known as the “Trail Map Artist” has painted ski resort trail maps across the country and the world. Locally he is credited with painting Park City Mountain, Deer Valley Resort, The Canyons and Utah Olympic Park trail maps.

Niehues announced recently that he will be in Park City Dec 29. at Gallery Mar for the opening of “Ski Map Originals,” a collection of 12 original works that will be on display.

Gallery Mar says “One of the defining features of Niehues‘ artwork is the seamless integration of form and function. Each stroke of his brush serves a dual purpose: providing accurate information about slopes, elevations, and trails while also creating a visual symphony that captures the spirit of the mountains. For collectors, this unique blend of form and function presents an opportunity to own not just a map but a piece of art that resonates with the thrill of winter sports.”

The opening will take place at 6 p.m. at 436 Main Street in Park City.
