UHP responds to call of body found at Summit County rest area

ECHO, Utah — Utah Highway Patrol (UHP) members responded to calls about a body found at a rest stop along I-80 earlier Thursday morning.

Public Information Officer Sergeant Cameron Roden said, “Earlier this morning, we were notified by a UDOT employee of a body that was at the rest area at mile marker 170. We had troopers that responded and located a 68-year-old male that was on the ground, deceased, near the restrooms, there at the rest area.”

The Utah State Bureau of Investigation responded as well to assist with the investigation, which is ongoing and in the initial stages at this time. Roden stated there are no obvious signs of foul play, and early findings are likely pointing to a medical incident.

The rest stop for mile marker 170 on I-80 eastbound is the Echo Canyon Rest Area. A semi-truck parked at the rest stop was linked to the deceased male.
