Hotel Park City Cottage fire leaves residents displaced

PARK CITY, Utah — The Park City Fire District responded to a structure fire at Hotel Park City Cottages on Park Avenue at approximately 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 14.

According to a statement from the PCFD, visible black smoke and flames were coming from the back side of the unit when they arrived.

“The fire is related to the chimney chase, the Fire Marshall is currently investigating, and the cause is yet to be determined,” said a statement from the PCFD. “There were a number of void spaces that made fighting the fire challenging.”

The occupants of all four building units were evacuated, and no injuries were reported. However, all occupants will be temporarily displaced due to significant structural damage to the building and the roof.

“Somebody from a neighboring cottage saw the smoke and went over and knocked all the doors, and everybody got out, nobody was hurt, which is the number one priority,” PCFD Battalion Chief Darren Nelson said. “We want to make sure nobody gets hurt.”

Medic Engine 37, Truck 36, Engine 34, Engine 38, Engine 31, Ambulance 31, Back Country 3, the PCFD Fire Marshall, Park City Police Department, and Summit County Sheriff’s Office responded.

The fire was battled for four hours and completely out by approximately 9:30 p.m. Saturday.
