PARK CITY, Utah — As a part of Avalanche Awareness Week, the Utah Avalanche Center is hosting its kick-off event in Salt Lake City Tuesday, December 6, at Sugarhouse Park from 4:30-7 p.m. Among the many discussions about avalanche safety will be free beacon training, booths put on by partners, and a Life Flight Helicopter landing.
Avalanche safety is not something Utah takes lightly. Finding out what you need to know to stay safe is just as important as following current conditions. It is not just about owning the equipment; it’s about knowing how to use it when the time comes. Even for those staying inbounds at a resort, accidents do happen.
For information on classes, current avalanche danger, events, and the Know Before You Go Program, see the Utah Avalanche Center website.

Like many transplants to Utah, Kevin started his journey to Park City as a ski instructor in 2014 and fell in love with the mountains enough to stay. A skier since the age of 2 and a half, he still gets excited about carving turns down the slopes and hopping into the powder on snow days.
Kevin's passion for storytelling and photography led him to a second bachelor's degree focused on communications and fine art photography from the University of Utah. Paired with his first undergrad in ecology from Oklahoma State University, Kevin particularly enjoys writing environmental and nature stories. In his spare time, you can usually find him in his jeep looking for wildlife and landscapes to photograph.
