USA podiums in the run up to Park City Bobsled/Skeleton World Cups
LILLEHAMMER, Norway — The Utah Olympic Park is hosting bobsled and skeleton World Cups on December 1 – 3. Click here for spectator scheduling. Team USA athletes have been busy racing in the early season and have been producing podium results therein.
On November 18, Team USA slid into competition with a 3rd place finish by Mystique Ro with a 1:48.28 time in Women’s Skeleton at the Europe Cup (EC). In Men’s Skeleton, Dan Barefoot also secured a 3rd place finish for the United States with a time of 1:45.68.
In Park City, UT, at the North American Cup (NAC), Lauren Brzozowski tied for 1st place in Women’s Monobob with a time of 1:45.47 while teammates Sylvia Hoffman and Salt Lake City’s Kaysha Love placed 5th and 7th with times of 1:47.06 and 1:48.87 respectively. Meanwhile, Geoffrey Gadbois and Quentin Willey finished 2nd in Men’s 2-Man Bobsled with a 1:38.32 time, while teammates Kristopher Horn and Brandon Jetter secured a 7th place finish in 1.39.87, Zach Snyder and Tim Monroe placed 8th with 1:40.80 and Derek White and Elliot Markuson placed 9th with a 1:42.43 time.
Moving on to November 19, Ro secured a 1st place victory in Women’s Skeleton with a time of 1:47.86 at the EC. In Men’s Skeleton, Barefoot placed 4th with a 1:45.91 finish. On the first day of the Para Sport World Cup in Lake Placid, NY, Guillermo Castillo placed 1st with a time of 2:03.08 in Para Bobsled. Teammate Bob Balk placed 4th with a 2:03.41 time. Back in Park City at the NAC, the 2-Man Bobsled team Gadbois and Darius Joseph placed 2nd with a 1:37.78 finish, Horn and Paul Rabic placed 6th with their 1:39.41 finish and Snyder and Charles Mangold took home 8th with their 1:40.35 finish. The 2nd day of Women’s Monobob concluded with a 4th place finish for Brzozowski’s 1:46.11 finish, a 5th place finish for Hoffman’s 1:46.16 time and lastly a 7th place finish for Love’s 1:47.36 time.
To wrap up the successful long weekend for Team USA, Castillo placed 2nd with a 2:03.68 time at the 2nd day of the Para Sport World Cup while teammates Balk placed 3rd with his 2:03.99 finish.
The BMW IBSF World Cup stops in Whistler, B.C. (11/24 – 11/26) and the Intercontinental Cup (ICC) in Winterberg, Germany (11/26 – 11/27).
