Red Ledges’ Pat Christoffer named Utah Golf’s Superintendent of the Year

HEBER CITY, Utah – The Utah Golf Course Superintendents Association (UGCSA) selected Red Ledges’ Director of Agronomy Pat Christoffer as “Superintendent of the Year.” Christoffer was honored at the GCSA awards banquet in Wendover, Nevada, on Tuesday, October 18.

“I am fired up about being named Superintendent of the Year – what a great award! Not just for me but for all the folks that have helped build our maintenance program into something special and unique,” said Christoffer. “We operate a program centered on integrity, creativity, and effort – I suppose this award means those little things matter. What an awesome piece of recognition for everyone at Red Ledges.”

Each year the Utah GCSA recognizes a superintendent, assistant superintendent, and industry salesperson for their exceptional work. Winners are not only outstanding turf managers but are also active in chapter activities, developing their staff, being a team player, and are champions in growing the game of golf. Winners are chosen by the current Utah GCSA Board of Directors based on the number of nominations and justifications provided.

Christoffer, a 25-year golf industry veteran, has been with Red Ledges since its beginning. In 2007, he actually saw the Nicklaus Design team move earth to form the 18-hole Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course’s fairways and greens.

He continues to manage the old 18-hole course today and the 12-hole par-3 Jack Nicklaus Golf Park, which debuted in 2016.

Heber City and Red Ledges, situated in the Heber Valley on the eastern side of the Wasatch Mountains, are in a high desert environment and receive less than 16 inches of precipitation yearly.

Knowing this, a crucial component of Christoffer’s work is collaborating with the environment and weather in the area. Christoffer is renowned throughout the golfing community for his efforts to regulate water usage and for using minimal pesticide and fertilizer while still generating immaculate Bentgrass fairways for the enjoyment of members.

Red Ledges, situated just minutes from Park City, features an award-winning Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course and a first-of-its-kind family-friendly Golf Park. The gated community is equipped with tennis and pickleball programming, an active member ski club, and an equestrian center.
