Data shows that traffic earlier this winter at PCMR was uniquely bad

PARK CITY, Utah — A transportation presentation set to accompany a Park City Council work session on critical transit priorities displays new Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) data on traffic around the city.

While traffic conditions around Park City Mountain have recently improved, this chart shows there were clear problems earlier this winter.

This graph compares traffic volume from three different days:

  • green — a Park Silly Market Sunday (Aug. 22, 2021)
  • yellow — a random Wednesday in August (Aug. 18, 2021)
  • blue — a peak winter Saturday (Jan. 29, 2022)

The next two graphs analyzes cell phone location data in order to determine where the visitors of local ski resorts are coming from:

  1. Protect residential neighborhoods — reduce cut-through traffic
  2. Transit efficiency
  3. Vehicle traffic flow

Staff is looking for direction from the council regarding prioritization and whether they agree with the objectives at Thursday’s meeting. The transportation work session is scheduled to begin at 3 pm.
