Park City Mountain working with City Hall to pilot traffic flow strategies

PARK CITY, Utah — Park City Mountain announced that it is working in collaboration with Park City Municipal to “test solutions to help improve resort-related traffic and congestion, improve the transit-first experience, and improve parking capacity and pedestrian operations,” according to a prepared statement.

In advance of the President’s Day holiday, the “operational adjustments will be in effect for 1-2 hours in the morning during peak travel periods, from the time when the lots reach capacity until traffic flow has cleared, and for 1-2 hours in the evening to mitigate impacts during egress at the end of the day.”

Some of the strategies being tested include:

  • Additional guest shuttles that will begin running at 7:30 a.m. from the High School on Saturday & Sundays to allow residents and guests to park there before driving into the resort.
  • Improvements to pedestrian walkways to more efficiently manage pedestrian safety around the resort
  • Updates to traffic routes that will go into effect once the lots are full:
    • Shadow Ridge Road will become a double westbound lane with two one way lanes – one for personal vehicles and one lane for buses only
    • No left turn from Empire Ave onto Shadow Ridge Road
    • Ingress traffic to paid parking in the underground garage will be queued and routed through the First Time lot and exit via Lower Lowell Ave
    • Incoming traffic heading to the guest drop-off or to High School Parking will be re-routed through the First Time lot and then back down Lowell Ave for a more efficient exit
  • Additional resort staffing and PC Police staffing to facilitate parking and traffic flow

There will be signs and staff on-site to assist with traffic flow and we continue to encourage our guests to utilize public transit, carpool, and follow @PCMtnAlert on Twitter for updates

Vail Resorts, Park City Mountain’s owner, has received harsh criticism locally and across the country at the dozens of other resorts the company owns.

At the Park City Council meeting last week, residents said traffic is “out of control” and the status of the resort is “embarrassing.”

The Silver Star lift is open this week after its closure was also denounced by citizens.
