Honoring the Olympic and Mountain Dew sipping legend Shaun White’s funniest interview
BEIJING — While the sun has finally set on Shaun White’s legendary and magnificent Olympic career, his impact on the sport has been immortalized. A three-time gold medalist, and 21-time X-Games medalist, which includes both snowboarding and skateboarding victories, White has dazzled international audiences for years. But while the majority of the memories most likely include his high-flying tricks, countless appearances on podiums or even his luscious red locks, the G.O.A.T. also participated in one of the greatest interviews of all time.
Following his first Olympic Gold medal in the 2006 Turin Olympics, White made an appearance on CNN to discuss his recent victory. As a 19 year old, and with his charming sense of humor, White completely stole the spotlight as he explained his experience traveling back to the States with his newly acquired and donut shaped hardware.
In what was arguably the best free marketing PepsiCo. has ever received, White explained how after he showed the stewardesses his medal, he received unlimited service, drinks, and snacks throughout the duration of his flight.
In response to his comment, the CNN interviewer questioned the drink service due to the fact that White was only 19 at the time. White then proceeded to respond in a way only he could and what was said cemented him as a true American treasure.
So while this Olympic icon has taken his last runs on the slopes, Let’s all raise a mountain dew to honor the greatest CNN interviewee and snowboarder of all time, Shaun White.
