58-year-old Salt Lake woman dies in tragic hunting accident near Echo
ECHO, Utah — A 58-year-old Salt Lake County woman is dead following a hunting accident in Summit County, northeast of Echo.
Deputies and AirMed responded to the scene and began providing aid on Monday afternoon.
Summit County Sheriff’s Office report on the incident:
They were elk hunting (apparently the last day of a provisional hunt). The woman sat inside the UTV (side by side).
For some reason (we are still investigating to piece together), the rifle discharged a bullet. The bullet hit the woman in the waist/pelvic area.
She died at the scene and was not transported. The investigation is ongoing, including an autopsy of the woman. The family members are being cooperative, and no one else was injured.
It appears this is a tragic hunting accident. We will release more details if and when they become available.
