Alta will require parking reservations on holidays & weekends

ALTA, Utah — Alta announced new parking measures recently that will be implemented on weekends and holidays starting December 18.

Parking reservations will cost $25 per day and run from 8 am – 1 pm. For Alta passholders, they will be free. Purchasers of Alta.com lift tickets will only have to pay $10.

Parking will remain on a first-come, first-serve basis for the first 100 days of the season. Opening day at Alta is November 20.

Reservations will be required for the Wildcat, Flagstaff (South Side), Grizzly, and Albion lots. The reservation system will run on Saturdays and Sundays from December 18 to closing day (April 3). They will also be required during the following holidays:

  • Winter break (December 23 – January 2)
  • MLK weekend (January 15 – 17)
  • Presidents’ weekend (February 19 – 21)

Reservations will go live only on Wednesday, November 3 at 7 am MST.

“Mainly unchanged for 83 years, skiing at Alta still delivers deep snowfall, sweeping mountain views and a laid-back vibe that generations of Alta skiers fondly recall,” Alta Ski Area said in a post.

“What has changed is the weekend and holiday skiing experience at Alta. And while we can’t go back in time, we are making changes to manage skier demand to preserve the Alta skiing experience going forward.

“Implementing a paid parking reservation system on weekends & holidays is a step in that direction.”

Fees will start at $75.
