Summit County now reporting Covid data for children ages 4 and under

SUMMIT COUNTY, Utah — The Summit County Health Department recently launched Covid case reporting for residents ages 0 to 4-years-old.

“We hope this added information can help parents make informed decisions about their children,” the department said in a tweet.

For the population of 2,206 in that age segment, there are a total of 8 cases reported as of Wednesday, October 13.

Kristen Schulz, a coordinator with the Early Childhood Alliance, sent a letter to the county council in September asking for the health department to provide data for the youngest children on the Covid dashboard.

“We’re undervaluing and underappreciating our child care system — which we do all the time — by not making this data available,” Schulz told The Salt Lake Tribune.

In the letter, Schulz also called for the following requirements in licensed child care facilities in Summit County:

  • All eligible staff be vaccinated and wear masks at work
  • All children over the age of 2 wear masks
  • Daily health screenings at drop-off
