Jump in with the Special Olympics’ Park City Polar Plunge
PARK CITY, Utah. — Join Special Olympian and last year’s Park City High School Prom King C.J. Haerter and “Get Freezin’ for a reason,” as Special Olympics Utah says it best, on Saturday, November 13, at 9:00 am for the Park City Polar Plunge at the Park City MARC to raise funds for the Special Olympic athletes. It’s the “Coolest event of the year.”
Haerter enjoys the fact that he can walk to the MARC to participate on his swim team, The Piranas, on which he recently won his 50 butterfly race, his favorite stroke, and took second in the 50 free. He told me, “I like swimming because I get to see friends. I love being on a team, and I love my teammates because they cheer me on to swim fast. I like all my coaches. I love to swim in the water at the MARC.”
For a minimum of $10, not only can anyone in town brave the cold waters, but also have the opportunity to earn incentives, party with friends, and support Special Olympics Utah.
“Too chicken to Plunge?! Don’t worry, we welcome all,” writes Special Olympics Utah. You don’t need to risk hypothermia to be part of the Polar Plunge. In fact, they need as many warm and caring souls as we do brave ones in order to have a successful event. Partner with them at this one-of-a-kind event to not only raise awareness for individuals with intellectual disabilities but your organization as well.
Haerter added, “I like watching swimming on TV. I love to watch Michael Phelps because he’s a good swimmer. I like swimming because it keeps me in good shape, I want to get a six-pack, like Super Man.”
He has taken part in multiple sports and activities growing up in Park City at the National Ability Center.
