Two Ecker Hill students referred to attorney’s office for school shooting threat

PARK CITY, Utah — On Tuesday night, September 7, the Summit County Sheriff’s Office reported that parents started sharing information on social media regarding a threat made by students at Ecker Hill Middle School.

Other parents began to reach out to the sheriff’s office to report the possible threat.

Below is the conclusion of the Summit County Sheriff’s report:

1. Two students at Ecker Hill Middle School made a joke about “shooting up the school.”
2. The threat was eventually reported to our office. Deputies immediately investigated the threat and located the juveniles who made the threat, and their parents.
3. We confirmed it was in fact a threat made jokingly and there are NO weapons available to the students.
4. We are not allowing the two students to attend school today and have encouraged the school to contact them with next steps.
5. The investigation will be sent to the Summit County Attorney’s Office for action in Juvenile Court.
“We ask parents of students to contact our office immediately when hearing information like this. It wasn’t until after it was shared on social media that our deputies were notified. If you hear or see something, please say something – to us,” the Summit County Sheriff’s Office said in a post.
“Thanks to all who gave information so we could quickly investigate this threat. Your children are safe to go to school – deputies will continue to make a presence, as usual.”
