Permit system to be implemented at Timpooneke Trailhead

PROVO, Utah — After receiving public feedback, the U.S. Forest Service (USFS) will be implementing a revised permit system at the Timpooneke Trailhead parking area in Summer 2022.

The USFS said the new system is needed to address overcrowding at the trailhead.

USFS is working in collaboration with the Utah Department of Transportation, Utah Highway Patrol, and Utah County on the project.

The following options will be available to visitors:

78 parking stalls – reservable online 30 days in advance for premium hours (Friday midnight to 3 pm Saturday/Midnight Saturday to 3 pm Sunday/ Midnight Holiday Mondays to 3 pm Monday).

18 parking stalls – reservable online 48 hours in advance for premium hours. (Friday midnight to 3 pm Saturday/Midnight Saturday to 3 pm Sunday/ Midnight Holiday Mondays to 3 pm Monday).

48 parking stalls- reservable online 48 hours in advance for afternoon hours (3 pm to 10 pm Saturday/ Sunday/Holiday Monday).

Pricing for premium hours = $16.00 total – $10.00 per car plus $6.00 fee area pass per car (current pass holders can use pass for the $6.00 fee area pass portion of permit).

Pricing for afternoon hours = $6.00 fee area pass.

Parking permits are in effect for 24 hours and reservations can be made 24/7 at recreation.gov

No parking will be allowed in pullouts along SR-92 two miles in either direction from the Timpooneke turn-off.

Salamander Flat Connector and Willow Hollow Trailheads will stay available as parking for those two trails.
