Heavy rain will continue on Monday

PARK CITY, Utah — After a wet weekend, rain is likely to continue on Monday before clearing out for blue skies the rest of the week.

The highest chance for precipitation today will be in the afternoon.

Flooding struck areas all over Utah yesterday.

Downtown Salt Lake City saw localized street flooding yesterday. “We still have areas of flooding in downtown SLC,” Salt Lake City Mayor Erin Mendenhall wrote in a tweet last night. “Please avoid driving through flooded areas while the water continues to recede, and stay safe.”

As of 10:45 pm Sunday night, the National Weather Service was reporting over an inch of rainfall in the Salt Lake Valley. There was also a report of pea-sized hail.

Enoch and Ceder City arguably saw the worst weather of the day. Both cities were under a flash flood emergency and saw massive flooding.

On Sunday night, Mayor Geoffrey Chesnut of Enoch declared a State of Emergency alongside Cedar City and Iron County. They are together requesting assistance from the state.

“This storm event caused severe flooding and property damage throughout Enoch City resulting in hundreds of flooded basements and yards and caused a portion of the city wastewater system to be overcome resulting in sewage backing up into basements,” wrote Chesnut in a statement.
