Alterra names new COO Mark Brownlie

DENVER, Colo. — Mark Brownlie has been promoted from president of California’s Mammoth Mountain and June Mountain to chief operating officer (COO) of resorts for Alterra, the parent company of Deer Valley, Mammoth, June Mountain Resorts, and many more. Brownlie has simultaneously been working as regional chief operating officer (RCOO) for Alterra’s western region.

Chief executive officer (CEO) for Alterra, Rusty Gregory, told Ski Area Management Magazine (SAM), “For several years, Mark has been a remarkably successful operator of Mammoth Mountain, Alterra Mountain Company’s largest destination. He is an inspirational leader who is as passionate about the mountains and the company as he is caring about our people. I am proud to promote him to chief operation officer—resorts.”

Deer Valley was among the first resorts in the conglomerate in 2017, along with Aspen, and marked Deer Valley’s 36th ski season. In total, Alterra owns and operates 16 resorts, including Solitude. All 16 are accessible via its IKON pass.

“I am excited and humbled by this new opportunity, and I look forward to collaborating with the RCOOs, our resort presidents, division leaders in Denver, and all team members across the company. Building our team will continue to be a priority as we look to the future of Alterra Mountain Company and continue to crush it in all aspects of our business,” Brownlie said to SAM.

Before coming on at Mammoth, Brownlie coached ski racing in Australia, New Zealand, and across Europe.

Upon learning the news, one stakeholder questioned, on social media, if more female faces would be joining the Alterra leadership team.
