Park City Museum opens its doors for free admission day

Visitors can explore Park City’s mining history, historic City Hall and a current exhibit on parades, protests and public gatherings

PARK CITY, Utah — The Park City Museum will offer free admission Saturday, Oct. 10, giving residents and visitors a chance to explore the stories, objects, and exhibits that trace the city’s transformation from mining town to modern mountain community.

The museum will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 528 Main St. Admission is free for everyone; donations are welcome but not required. Visitors are asked to check in at the front desk so the museum can track attendance.

The museum is housed partly inside Park City’s historic City Hall, which was completed in 1885 and once held the city’s police and fire departments and Territorial Jail. Much of the surrounding Main Street area was destroyed in the Great Fire of 1898, but portions of the building survived and were rebuilt.

Permanent exhibits explore Park City’s mining history, the 1898 fire, and other chapters of local life. Among the museum’s artifacts is a 1926 Graham Brothers Dodge fire truck displayed in the historic 1901 Fire Tower.

Visitors can also see the museum’s current Tozer Gallery exhibit, “Park City Loves a Parade: Our Parades, Processions and Protests from Past to Present.”

The locally curated exhibit looks at how Park City residents have used public gatherings over generations to celebrate, mourn, support one another, and express their views. The exhibit was developed in recognition of the nation’s 250th anniversary and will remain on display through April 4, 2027.

The Park City Museum traces its roots to 1981, when the Park City Historical Society was established by a small group of local residents. Its mission today is to preserve, protect, and share Park City’s history through exhibits, research, collections, and educational programs.

Another free admission day is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 24, also from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
