National Voter Registration Day puts focus on checking voter status

Utah voters can register, update their information and find election resources ahead of the Nov. 3 general election.

PARK CITY, Utah — Tuesday is National Voter Registration Day, a nationwide, nonpartisan effort encouraging eligible Americans to register to vote or update their voter information before the Nov. 3 general election.

National Voter Registration Day has been held each September since 2012. Organizers say the effort has helped more than 6.5 million people register to vote through partnerships with election offices, schools, libraries, nonprofits and other organizations across the country.

Utah voters can check or update registration status, addresses, and other voter information through the state’s official election website, Vote.Utah.gov.

The deadline to register for Utah’s 2026 general election without voting a provisional ballot is 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23. Eligible voters who miss the deadline can still register in person at an early voting location or on Election Day and cast a provisional ballot with the required identification.

Utah residents must be U.S. citizens, have lived in Utah for at least 30 days before the election, and meet the state’s age requirements to register. Utah also allows 16- and 17-year-olds to preregister to vote.

In Summit County, the County Clerk’s Office oversees voter registration and elections. Residents can register, update their registration, or check their status online through the state website. Residents can also submit paper registration forms to the Summit County Clerk.

The Clerk’s Office is located at 60 N. Main St. in Coalville. Voters with questions can contact the elections office at 435-336-3040 or elections@summitcountyutah.gov.
