Celebration of Life for Colin Hilton set for Sept. 23 at Utah Olympic Park

PARK CITY, Utah — The Utah Olympic and Park City communities will gather next week to celebrate the life and legacy of Colin Hilton, longtime president and CEO of the Utah Olympic Legacy Foundation who died Aug. 21 at age 58.

A public Celebration of Life for Hilton is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 23, from 6 to 9 p.m. at Olympic Plaza at Utah Olympic Park, one of the venues that became central to his vision of what an Olympic legacy could become after the Games were over.

The evening will include a welcome from 6 to 7 p.m., selected speakers from 7 to 8 p.m. and a toast to Hilton beginning at 8 p.m., according to event organizers.

The foundation describes the event as an opportunity to recognize Hilton’s contributions to Park City, Utah’s Olympic legacy, the upcoming 2034 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, and the broader Olympic movement.

Most importantly, the organization said, the gathering will honor the relationships Hilton built and the people whose lives he touched throughout his career.

Hilton led the Utah Olympic Legacy Foundation for more than two decades, helping oversee the venues and programs that have carried Utah’s 2002 Olympic legacy forward. Under his leadership, the Utah Olympic Park, Utah Olympic Oval, and Soldier Hollow Nordic Center developed into year-round centers for athletic and community use.

His work also extended beyond the Olympic venues themselves. Hilton helped facilitate the creation of Park City Ski and Snowboard, bringing together eight Wasatch Back ski clubs into a single organization and strengthening youth and athlete development connected to the Utah Olympic Park.

Hilton was also involved in Utah’s effort to bring the Olympic and Paralympic Games back to the state in 2034.

The Utah Olympic Legacy Foundation is collecting photos, videos, and written memories of Hilton to share as part of the celebration. Community members can submit memories through the foundation’s Celebration of Life webpage.

The event is open to those wishing to attend, and the foundation asks guests to RSVP through its website.
