Sundance celebrates Robert Redford’s birthday with lift rides, sundaes

SUNDANCE, Utah — Sundance Mountain Resort honored founder Robert Redford’s birthday with an evening event Tuesday, August 18, featuring extended lift hours, a fundraiser for the Sundance Nature Alliance, and an opportunity for guests to share memories of the actor and filmmaker.

The resort kept the Outlaw Express running late, with proceeds from the $10 lift tickets benefiting the Sundance Nature Alliance.

Guests gathered at the Village firepits for brief remarks honoring Redford, followed by complimentary brownie sundaes, which was one of Redford’s favorite desserts.

The resort’s Art Studio & Gallery also hosted a memory station where guests reflected on Redford’s legacy and shared their own memories.

Redford is known for founding Sundance Mountain Resort, and he played a central role in shaping the community around the resort and the Sundance Institute. Under his direction, the Institute established Sundance as an international center for independent film and the arts.

The occasion marks what would have been Redford’s 90th birthday. He passed away September 16, 2025.
