Hot, mostly sunny weekend ahead for Summit County

SUMMIT COUNTY, Utah — Summit County is heading into a hot and mostly sunny weekend, with only a limited chance of afternoon thunderstorms, according to the National Weather Service.

In Park City, temperatures are expected to reach around 90 degrees Saturday and 92 degrees Sunday. Overnight lows will remain relatively warm, falling only into the low to mid-60s.

Saturday will begin sunny before a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms develops between noon and 3 p.m. The chance of precipitation is about 20%, with south winds of 3 to 8 mph. Storm chances increase slightly Saturday evening, when the National Weather Service places the probability of showers and thunderstorms at 30% before midnight.

Sunday is expected to be warmer and mostly sunny, with only a 10% chance of an afternoon thunderstorm. A slight chance of showers or thunderstorms returns Sunday evening.

The National Weather Service’s Salt Lake City office said drier air will gradually move into Utah over the weekend, decreasing the coverage of afternoon and evening thunderstorms. Monsoonal moisture is expected to return beginning Tuesday.

Although widespread storms are not expected, anyone heading into the mountains should remain alert for rapidly changing conditions. Thunderstorms can produce lightning, brief heavy rain and sudden gusty winds, even when rainfall chances are low.

Temperatures will vary across Summit County depending on elevation, with lower-elevation communities likely to be warmer than Park City and the surrounding mountains.
