PARK CITY, Utah — Waiting for the bus in Park City is about to get a little more colorful.

Twenty bus shelters across the city will soon feature original artwork by 10 artists selected through Park City’s Public Art Advisory Board as part of the second phase of the city’s Bus Shelter Art Program.

The project began last year with eight bus stops featuring public artwork.

These shelters are part of a multi-phase plan to improve 72 bus stops across the city.

The installations are intended to transform everyday transit stops into small public art galleries, adding local character while creating a more engaging experience for riders and passersby.

The Park City Council approved selections following recommendations from the Public Art Advisory Board, which reviewed a highly competitive pool of submissions before selecting the final group of artists.

The city has allocated $115,000 for the artwork, with funding varying based on the size of each shelter. Public art in Park City is funded through a combination of direct Capital Improvement Plan allocations and a program that dedicates 1% of qualifying city capital projects to public art.

The Bus Shelter Art Program is part of the city’s broader effort to weave public art into everyday spaces, bringing artwork beyond traditional galleries and into places residents interact with daily.

Once installed later this summer, the shelters will offer commuters and visitors alike a new reason to pause before the next bus arrives.
