Park City Film and Ballet West offer free combined event on July 16

PARK CITY, Utah — Raising Voices En Pointe is part of the Ballet West Summit but is being held at the Jim Santy Auditorium at the Park City Library in cooperation with Park City Film. Reserve your free tickets here for the 7 p.m. event.

The event consists of two documentaries followed by a Q&A session with Director Jennifer Lin, Producer Cory Lin Stieg, “Final Bow for Yellowface” Founder Phil Chan, and Ballet West Artistic Director Adam Sklute.

The documentaries are Ten Times Better and About Face. Ten Times Better tells the story of George Lee, an 88-year-old blackjack dealer who was the first Asian-born ballet dancer at the New York City Ballet and performed on Broadway before moving to Las Vegas.

About Face spotlights Georgina Pazcoguin and Phil Chan as they challenge the dance world to rid ballet of offensive stereotypes of Asians and make ballet more inclusive. The feature-length documentary is based on a movement that began as a pledge on a website and has since grown into a global force, disrupting the elite world of ballet. On Thursday, July 16, you have the opportunity to hear the dancer Phil Chan answer questions in person.

Adam Sklute announced earlier this year that after 20 years, he will be stepping down from being Ballet West’s Artistic Director in 2027. Until then, he has more firsts planned, including a collaboration with Park City Opera. In their August production of Romeo and Juliette, Ballet West dancers will be part of the show. “Our dancers will have this marvelous opportunity to take part in an art form that is, in fact, where ballet was born,” said Sklute.
