PARK CITY, Utah — Members of the Young Men’s Service League Park City Chapter volunteered alongside local veterans organizations during this year’s Memorial Day ceremony at the Park City Cemetery, helping honor service members who died serving the country.
The annual ceremony brought together veterans, families, and community members to commemorate Memorial Day and recognize fallen military personnel.
YMSL mothers and sons assisted with event logistics, welcomed attendees, distributed refreshments, and participated in honoring local veterans and fallen service members.
As part of the observance, volunteers participated in the Veteran’s Flags and Flowers initiative, a nationwide effort aimed at ensuring veterans are remembered by placing American flags and red carnations on gravesites.
This year, YMSL members joined volunteers from American Legion Post 14 and the Park City Rotary Club to place flags and flowers on the graves of 173 veterans at both Glenwood Cemetery and Park City Cemetery.
The Flags and Flowers movement was launched in 2015 and aims to honor veterans through cemetery tributes. Provo became Utah’s first participating city in 2021, and Park City adopted the tradition in 2023 through a partnership between the local YMSL chapter and American Legion Post 14.
Organizers said the event provides young volunteers an opportunity to learn about civic service, patriotism, and the sacrifices made by military members while serving alongside their families.
