PARK CITY, Utah — City staff and residents gathered at Creekside Park this week to celebrate the official ribbon cutting of a new shade structure, marking the completion of a project more than a year in the making.
The installation comes after upgrades to the Creekside Bike Park, which features three hand-built dirt jump lines and a pump track designed for riders of all skill levels.
Mayor Ryan Dickey said the project began with a simple idea: adding shade for pump track users and families spending time at the park. But city leaders decided to think bigger.
“In some places, they just put up a little tent,” Dickey said. “We said, ‘Let’s turn this into a cool piece of public art and really go to town with it.’ And that’s what we did.”
The structure was designed by artist Mark Rane and blends functional shade with public art alongside the bike jumps and the McLeod Creek Trail.
According to the city, the design draws inspiration from the form of a bicycle and was constructed using weathering steel for durability and longevity.
