PARK CITY, Utah — Just in time for Memorial Day weekend, the Utah Department of Transportation has reopened both the Alpine Loop and Mirror Lake Highway, marking the seasonal opening of Utah’s final high-elevation roads.
Mirror Lake Highway stretches from east of Kamas toward the Wyoming border through the Uinta Mountains. The route is a popular summer access corridor for camping, hiking, fishing, and boating destinations frequented by Wasatch Back residents and visitors. The scenic route provides one of the primary gateways into the western Uintas during the summer recreation season.
SR-92 through American Fork Canyon and the Alpine Loop is also now open.
With the openings, all state-maintained seasonal roads across Utah are now officially accessible heading into the busy holiday weekend.
Other seasonal routes currently open include:
SR-190 Guardsman Pass between Brighton and Park City
SR-224 Guardsman Pass between Park City and the Summit/Wasatch County line
SR-35 over Wolf Creek Summit east of Francis
SR-39 over Monte Cristo east of Ogden
SR-65 through East Canyon northeast of Salt Lake City
SR-153 near Mount Holly and Puffer Lake
SR-148 through Cedar Breaks National Monument
UDOT noted that some non-state maintained seasonal roads may still remain closed or have changing conditions. That includes routes such as the Nebo Loop and Pine Canyon Road.
Drivers seeking updates on those roads are encouraged to check directly with the United States Forest Service and other local maintenance agencies.
Officials are also reminding travelers to prepare for changing mountain weather conditions, lingering snow near higher elevations, and increased holiday traffic throughout the weekend.
