HEBER CITY, Utah — A Heber City-based eyewear company is looking to carve out space in the crowded outdoor gear market by leaning into how Wasatch Back residents actually use their gear: on trails, water, snow, and roads.
Eastern Outer, a family-owned business headquartered in Heber City, sells performance sunglasses, snow goggles, wood-frame sunglasses, and floating bamboo shades designed for biking, running, skiing, paddling, and other outdoor pursuits common across the Heber Valley.
The company was founded after more than 15 years of experience in the eyewear industry, focusing on offering sunglasses and goggles at prices below those of many major outdoor and eyewear brands. Its products are designed in Heber and manufactured in facilities the company says are also used by larger brands.
Eastern Outer’s product line includes photochromic sunglasses for biking and running, snow goggles, lifestyle shades, wood and carbon fiber frames, and bamboo floating sunglasses. Products listed on the company’s website range from about $50 to $70.
The company’s Heber roots are central to its identity. Eastern Outer describes its home base as east of Utah’s “big” city and “outside the noise,” a nod to the valley’s mix of small-town life, trail access, reservoirs, and year-round recreation.
For the Wasatch Back, Eastern Outer adds another locally based outdoor brand to a regional economy shaped by recreation and mountain living. The company’s pitch is simple: eyewear made for people who spend a lot of time outside, without the premium-brand price tag.
