Miners boys basketball lands veteran coach Drew Trost

New head coach arrives with a .725 career winning percentage and will teach math at PCHS

PARK CITY, Utah — Park City High School announced the appointment of Drew Trost as the new head coach of the Miners’ boys basketball program on Wednesday.

Trost will also join the PCHS faculty as a mathematics teacher. He holds a master’s degree from Indiana University and has built his career on the principle that academic achievement and character development matter as much as athletic performance.

The move is something of a homecoming for the Trost family. Drew is relocating to Park City with his wife, Christy, a PCHS alumna, and their three daughters.

He arrives with more than two decades of head coaching experience and a career record of 371–141, a .725 winning percentage.

“We are incredibly excited that Coach Trost is going to lead the Miners basketball team,” PCHS Principal Caleb Fine said in a statement. “His priority to help young men develop into the best version of themselves aligns perfectly with our school.”

Trost’s tenure has been marked by consistent postseason success. At Juan Diego Catholic High School, where he coached from 2013 to 2026, he led the Soaring Eagle to a 242–84 record, nine region championships, and three state runner-up finishes. Earlier, at Bishop Noll Institute, he built a regional powerhouse with a 129–57 record, including a 26–1 season and a state runner-up finish.

He has also mentored more than 20 student-athletes who went on to play collegiate basketball, including 7 on Division I scholarships.

Trost’s programs are built on teamwork, accountability, and toughness. His honors include Utah Best of State High School Coach of the Year and multiple regional Coach of the Year recognitions.
