PARK CITY, Utah — “Whether you use a skateboard, bike, scooter, or other wheels, we want to hear from you!” writes Basin Recreation in a statement. They’re transforming the Trailside Skatepark into a modern Wheels Park, and they want the public’s input in the design process.
The next Design Workshop is scheduled for Thursday, April 23, at 6 p.m. at the Trailside Park Room at 5715 Trailside Dr. and all ages and experience levels are welcome to participate.
A third party professional design team will share two concepts rendered in 3D based on feedback gathered from the community. Attendees will have opportunities to ask questions, share feedback, and help refine the design as the project moves forward.
For those unable to attend in person — or who prefer to share feedback afterward — a brief survey will be available. A virtual option via Microsoft Teams will also be offered for those who would like to listen and participate remotely.
The District’s existing skatepark at Trailside Park is being transformed into a modern, purpose-built wheels park that serves a broader range of wheeled recreation users, including skateboards, scooters, BMX bikes, and inline skates.
The renovation will replace aging, prefabricated features with a durable, fully integrated concrete facility and expanded footprint designed for long-term performance, safety, and inclusivity, according to Basin Rec. The goal is to blend public input with professional design experience to create a wheels park that feels authentic, functional, and built for the people who will use it most, they write.
The third party designer, Spohn Ranch, will handle all aspects of construction, including the labor, materials, and equipment needed to complete the project as designed.
The project will be initiated in 2026 and a target completion date will be determined following the public engagement and design processes.
The Trailside Bike Park, upper playground, courts, dog park, and other amenities are expected to remain open during construction, though some areas may close intermittently due to proximity to the work zone.
Parking may be limited at times, but additional parking is available at nearby Trailside East Park. Additionally, the lower playground at Trailside Park will be closed Spring 2026 due to a concurrent replacement project.
This project is funded through the approved 2026 capital budget and Impact Fees. Staff are also seeking grant funding.
