April 1 deadline approaching for party affiliation changes

PARK CITY, Utah — Summit County voters who want to change their political party affiliation ahead of the 2026 primary elections have until April 1 to do so.

The deadline is 5 p.m. April 1 for in-person or mailed changes and 11:59 p.m. for online submissions. Party affiliation cannot be changed after that date for the 2026 election cycle.

The party affiliation change form is available on the Summit County Clerk’s website.

Utah’s primary elections are June 23. Voters will receive a ballot for the party they are registered with. Voters who are not registered Democrats but want a Democratic ballot must submit a written request; the form is also available at the clerk’s office.

All voters will receive a general election ballot in November that includes candidates from all parties, regardless of affiliation.

The county is encouraging residents to check their voter registration status, especially those who have recently moved or are registering for the first time. Registration information and updates are available at vote.utah.gov.

For questions, contact the Summit County Clerk’s Office at elections@summitcountyutah.gov or 435-333-3040.
