UTAH — Utah drivers now have a stellar new way to show their love for the night sky while supporting conservation and education across Utah’s state parks. Officials announced the launch of the Utah Dark Sky specialty license plate, a new option that helps fund dark sky programs and raise awareness about light pollution.
The specialty plate was authorized by House Bill 88, passed by the Utah Legislature in 2022, which created the Utah Dark Sky support group plate and directs proceeds to the Utah State Parks’ dark sky initiative.
The Utah Dark Sky plate celebrates Utah’s world‑class night skies and the state’s leadership in dark sky conservation. The design shows the Big Dipper constellation above Delicate Arch, which is located in the officially designated International Dark Sky Arches National Park.
Funds raised from the license plates will help support educational events, outreach efforts, and programs aimed at reducing light pollution around Utah’s parks.
Utah is home to more than two dozen certified Dark Sky places, including many national and state parks that are internationally recognized for their minimal light pollution and exceptional stargazing conditions.
