Silver Queens rebrand Park City women’s hockey program with new vision

From brand new skaters to NCAA veterans, the team competes in the Goal Digger Tournament this weekend in Salt Lake City.

PARK CITY — The Park City Silver Queens earned a third-place finish at the 2025 Tater Tussle Tournament in Sun Valley last month, sending them into this weekend’s Goal Digger Tournament in Salt Lake City with momentum.

This season marks the hockey team’s first under the Silver Queens name, replacing the longtime Park City Predators. Team manager Christin van Dine said the early success is encouraging. “The team had a great showing at our first tournament of the season,” van Dine said.

The Goal Digger Tournament begins Friday at the Salt Lake City Sports Complex at 645 South Guardsman Way. The Silver Queens will send 30 members across B and C level teams. The C team plays at 4 p.m. against the SLC Black Diamonds C team, with the B team facing off at 8:45 p.m. against the Flying Vs. The tournament draws teams from Durango, Colorado; Teton Valley, Idaho; Ketchum, Idaho; Jackson, Wyoming; and several other Utah programs.

“We are so excited for an amazing weekend of hockey,” van Dine said. “We have a great community of women and we hope some fans will come down to support our team as we move forward with this new chapter of Park City women’s hockey.”

The program has expanded to develop women’s hockey at all skill levels, adding a new division for players new to the sport. Team captain Steph Murray said the approach creates room for different experience levels. “The Silver Queens are Park City’s growing force in women’s hockey, bringing together seasoned players and brand-new skaters alike to build skill, confidence, and community,” Murray said. “We are committed to developing women’s hockey in Park City while keeping the game fun, supportive, and empowering.”

The roster blends experience with development. Among the team’s skilled players are four NCAA Division I or III alumni — Murray, Nikki Bongaerts Magrath, Natalie Petersen and Ali Davis — anchoring the upper levels of play.

The Silver Queens’ growth reflects momentum across Utah. USA Hockey data shows the state’s hockey registration has grown more than 30 percent over the past five years, with youth hockey nearly doubling since 2018. The arrival of the NHL’s Utah Mammoth in 2024 further accelerated interest in the sport.
