PARK CITY, Utah — The Utah Humanities Book Festival will return to Summit and Wasatch counties from October 1 to 5, coinciding with National Book Month and featuring a slate of events that celebrate reading, writing, and the literary arts.
Libraries in both counties will host activities and discussions throughout the week, culminating in a two-day festival at the Park City Library on Oct. 4-5. The weekend will feature events for all ages, including author talks, workshops, and family activities.
Headlining authors include Kevin Fedarko, who will speak Oct. 4 at 2 p.m., and Teow Lim Goh, who will appear Oct. 5 at 1 p.m. Fedarko, a journalist and author of The Emerald Mile, will discuss his latest book, A Walk in the Park: The True Story of a Spectacular Misadventure in the Grand Canyon. Goh will present her new work, Bitter Creek, a lyrical retelling of the 1885 Rock Springs Massacre with ties to Park City history.
Events will also include a Pie Breakfast with banned book readings, a puppet show, a zine-making workshop, and a young writers workshop with author Becca Lee Gardner. Other highlights include a session on creating graphic novels with writer Doug Wagner, a presentation on the history of books from the University of Utah’s Rare Books Department, and an author panel on immigration featuring Goh, Kase Johnstun, and Yamile Saied Méndez.
The Park City Library will also host a “Create Your Own Book Cover” contest for children and teens, with entries displayed and winners announced during the festival.
Festival organizers emphasized the focus on community engagement, with opportunities to meet local authors, participate in craft projects, and learn about publishing through Torrey House Press. Dolly’s Bookstore will host signings on Oct. 5 with featured authors.
The festival is presented in partnership with Utah Humanities, Summit County Library, Wasatch County Library and the Friends of the Park City Library.
