Slopes, sleds, and shenanigans: Cardboard Derby returns for winter fun

PARK CITY, Utah—The 3rd Annual Cardboard Sled Derby will take place on March 1, bringing a day of creativity, competition, and winter fun to Summit County. Participants of all ages can test their engineering skills by building sleds using only cardboard, duct tape, string or twine, and paint before racing them down the PC Ice Arena Hill at the Park City Sports Complex.

Teams may consist of up to four riders per sled, with only one rider required to register to secure a spot. All participants must sign a waiver before competing, and helmets are mandatory. Teams will be placed in divisions based on the oldest member’s age. For example, a parent-child team will compete in the Adult 16+ division.

Competitors are encouraged to construct their sleds in advance, with ample time for planning and design. Each sled will be inspected before the race to ensure it meets competition guidelines. Once on the course, racers will navigate their handmade sleds toward the finish line.

The event, known for its combination of creativity and comedy, welcomes racers and spectators. In the event of inclement weather, the backup date is March 8.
