Skiers, horses giddy up for skijoring in Wasatch County

HEBER CITY, Utah — Skijoring, the extreme sport that pairs horse-mounted riders with towed skiers and snowboarders, returns to the Wasatch Valley next month for a high-speed showcase of winter athletics meets Western tradition.

The two-day competition, set for Feb. 14-15 at the Wasatch County rodeo grounds, challenges competitors to navigate a snow-covered course of jumps, gates and rings while being pulled by galloping horses.

Skijoring Utah is a celebration of Utah’s ski legacy and cowboy lifestyle in one event. And we love hosting it in Heber Valley!” said Joe Loveridge, owner of RMO Horses and co-founder of Skijoring Utah.

The two-day competition welcomes participants of all skill levels, from newcomers to seasoned professionals with almost 100 teams participating in this year’s event. Friday’s races begin at 2 p.m., while Saturday’s competition starts at 9 a.m.

“Wasatch County will be the epicenter of adrenaline with this event, with the perfect blend of snowsports meets the spirit of the Wild West,” said Dallin Koecher, executive director of Heber Valley Tourism and Chamber.

The event offers various ticket options, including VIP, general admission and tailgate packages. More information about tickets and registration is available at Skijoring Utah’s website.
