Classic cold front bringing 7-12 inches of snow to Park City mountains

A strong cold front will bring significant mountain and valley snow, starting early Saturday morning with 3-7” of snow expected in town at Park City.

PARK CITY, Utah – An incoming winter storm system is currently impacting the Sierra Nevada range in California but is quickly heading towards Utah overnight Friday into Saturday. This system is looking like a “classic” Utah winter storm, with a strong well-defined cold front arriving early Saturday morning around 5am to 6am bringing heavy snowfall, with an extended period of cold northwest flow for most of the day Saturday before tapering off in the late evening, favoring Alta and Little Cottonwood. The highest snowfall rates will be from 5am to 12pm with accumulations greater than 1” per hour, and then transitioning to lower rates for the afternoon hours.

Forecasted mountain snow totals through Monday

  • Park City / Deer Valley: 7-12”
  • Upper Big Cottonwood: 18-24”
  • Little Cottonwood: 20-22”

Valley snow expected

In addition to the significant mountain snow, there will be decent accumulations in the higher valleys, with 3-7” of snow expected in town at Park City. The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for Park City for Saturday 5am – 11pm. Even the benches in the Salt Lake Valley could see accumulations in the 3-5” range. Another smaller system is forecast to impact Utah on Monday of next week.
