Cross Country skiers Carmack, Hoffman race on to the podium in Wyoming
Jackson, Wyoming — The Park City Ski and Snowboard Nordic Team went to Wyoming last week and came away with impressive results. Local skiers landed two podiums with first place for Ian Carmack, third place for Tory Hoffman, and first place for the mixed relay team which included both racers.
Both boys are students at Park City High School.
Tory’s younger sister Teagan Hoffman and Brook Greenberg rounded out the relay team that beat out competitors from Montana, Colorado, Idaho and other Utah teams including Soldier Hollow and The Utah Nordic Alliance.
The Intermountain Division race had been on-again-off-again citing low snow levels. After organizers in Wyoming decided it could in fact go forward and it wouldn’t necessitate a change in venue to neighboring Targhee, they also eliminated the Classic discipline to focus the natural resources at hand and under foot and only held the skate races. PCSS coaches Olympian Liz Stephen and Paralympian Steve Cook waxed up the skis, aiding the strong performances.
“The weekend was great. The snow was thin at the beginning but a good storm came in and it was a winter wonderland on Sunday for the relay race.” Ian’s mom Cindy Carmack told TownLift. She was among the group of Parkite parents who traveled to the event including the Hoffmans. “The kids had a good time, they were able to eat together in the evenings and have a Secret Santa exchange as well.”
