Park City photographers take success to next level
PARK CITY, Utah — On Nov. 1, the Intermountain Professional Photographers Association held its annual print competition at Pictureline in Salt Lake City. Three Park City photographers received top awards.
David Winegar shares his nature and wildlife photography
David Winegar received the “Nature and Wildlife Image of the Year” award for his print “Snowstorm Sheet Music.” This image of birds clinging to branches was taken during a fierce snowstorm in Wanship. He also won first place in this category with “Baby Osprey – Waiting for Mother,” taken near the Provo River. In the Landscape category, David Winegar also won “Landscape Image of the Year” for “Big Sky Country,” showcasing cloud waves rolling across the Utah West Desert. His black and white photograph “Lonely Bristlecone Pine – Dead Horse Point” took third place.
Park City Photographers tie for “Rookie of the Year”
“Rookie of the Year” recognizes the highest-scoring images for first-time competition entrants. Park City photographers Liz Dranow and Howard Meltzer shared this title this year. Liz Dranow is a certified professional photographer and the owner of Time Punk Pet Photography. She won the “Animal Portrait Image of the Year” award with “Garden Sphynx,” a portrait of a mixed breed dog framed in lavender at Wheeler Farm. Dranow also won second place in the same category with an image of a 13-year-old pitbull at the golden hour of sunset and third place with “I’ve Been Waiting for You,” picturing a Yorkie outside the Eating Establishment on Main Street, Park City.
Howard Meltzer receives awards in two categories
“TEAMWORK” received the “Reportage Image of the Year” award. It depicts the intense concentration and teamwork between a jet pilot and his ground crew. In the Fine Art/Illustrative category, Howard Meltzer’s image “Primal Ooze” received third place. At the Utah State Fair earlier this year, that same photograph won first place in its category.
