Edward Wald takes us on a musical journey to inner peace
PARK CITY, Utah — Local composer Edward Wald will play his compositions as part of Park City Library’s Local Speaker Series on Dec. 3 at 4 p.m. This event is free and is part of his talk on Music as a Path to Inner Peace.
Edward Wald applies his artistry
Edward Wald began his formal music education at the age of seven. He plays multiple instruments and is a music composer and singer-songwriter.
“My perception of music changed completely when I found an article about the main differences between regular styles of music and Zen or meditation music. The main difference turned out to be in the usage of pauses,” Wald said, explaining that, “in regular styles of music the pauses prepare us to perceive sounds and melody, whereas in Zen or meditation music it is the other way around: the sounds and melody prepare us to perceive pauses or silence. If we listen to music in this way, we gradually begin to notice that silence is not empty or insignificant but is valuable in itself. And the more we focus on silence, the calmer our mind becomes.”
Don’t just learn about inner peace, feel it
Having published three books on how to calm the mind and find inner peace and inspiration in life – not available in English yet – Edward Wald believes that music is a direct path to the heart and mind. Depending on what we listen to and how, it will affect us differently. In this Local Speaker Series event the audience will be able to listen to Edward Wald perform examples of his piano compositions on a baby grand piano as he talks about how music affects us.
