House fire in Midway kills Wasatch County man

MIDWAY, Utah – Wasatch County Fire officials said the details surrounding a house fire that killed an elderly man outside Midway are under investigation.

On Saturday, Oct. 19, firefighters responded to a home on Stringtown Road south of Midway at approximately 2 p.m. Fire Chief Eric Hales confirmed that an elderly man, who lived alone, was found dead inside the home following the fire on Saturday. Fire marshals determined the blaze originated in the living room, causing severe damage to the single-story structure, including a partial collapse.

Stringtown Road remained closed for several hours as fire crews worked to extinguish the flames. Investigators stayed on the scene until around 9 p.m. The Wasatch Fire District, along with the Wasatch County Sheriff’s Office and the state fire marshal, is investigating the cause of the fire, while the state medical examiner will determine the official cause of death.

Authorities have not released the man’s identity, as his family has yet to be notified.
