Summit County to begin mailing voter ballots today
SUMMIT COUNTY – The Summit County Clerk’s Office will begin mailing ballots today, Tuesday, October 15. Voters should expect to receive them later this week.
In a video published on Facebook, Summit County Clerk, Eve Furse, explained how the office ensures ballot security.
“In order to ensure that the ballot we get from you is the correct ballot, and it’s actually your ballot is that we assign each ballot a separate ID number, and that ID number is tied to your identity,” Furse said.
That number appears both on the ballot envelope that you send to the county and on the envelope that has your ballot in it that the county sends to you. When that comes into the office, the number is scanned in to make sure it matches up.
“If somebody tries to make a bunch of copies of ballots and send those in, or somebody tries to print their own ballots they won’t have numbers that our system will recognize, and so we will know not to count those ballots,” Furse explained.
If you do not receive your ballot in the mail, please contact the Clerk’s Office at elections@summitcountyutah.gov or by calling 435-336-3040.
