On Display: Karl Haendel’s ‘Less Bad’ at Kimball Art Center
PARK CITY, Utah—Less Bad, an exhibition featuring over twenty years of work by Los Angeles—based artist Karl Haendel, is currently on display at the Kimball Art Center in collaboration with the Frederick R. Weisman Museum of Art at Pepperdine University. The exhibition opened Aug. 30 and runs through Dec. 1.
Organized with Kimball Art Center Executive Director Aldy Milliken and Dr. Andrea Gyorody, director of the Frederick R. Weisman Museum, the exhibition showcases Haendel’s exploration of personal and social themes, such as fatherhood, love, friendship, and loss alongside more significant questions of tenderness, masculinity, and vulnerability.
“Haendel’s meticulously rendered pencil drawings transform familiar images into emphatic visual statements,” Milliken said. “After our 20-year working relationship, I look forward to presenting his artwork and installations to the greater Utah community.”
Haendel’s dedication to traditional drawing techniques is both a technical choice and a conceptual statement in the digital age. His slow, deliberate process encourages viewers to engage thoughtfully with each piece, offering a reflective experience.
