Fatal US-40 crash claims 2 lives, injures 4

A female driver and a 3-year-old girl were killed in a two-vehicle collision on Tuesday.

WASATCH COUNTY, Utah — A female driver and a 3-year-old female were killed in a two-vehicle crash on US-40 near milepost 36 on Tuesday, October 1, 2024.

Two other children who were passengers in the same vehicle were seriously hurt but survived the crash.

On Tuesday, October 1, 2024, at approximately 2:41 p.m., a crash occurred near milepost 36 on US-40.

According to State Patrol, a Volkswagen Passat was heading west on the highway when it crossed the center line and collided head-on with a Dodge Ram 2500 pickup truck traveling east.

The woman driving the Passat was not wearing a seat belt and was partially ejected from the vehicle. She died on impact, State Patrol said.

A 3-year-old girl who was also in the Passat was not restrained and was fully ejected from the vehicle. She, too, died on impact, according to State Patrol.

Two male juveniles in the rear seats of the Passat were also unrestrained but survived the crash. Both boys were flown to a hospital in the area with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Two male adults in the Dodge truck were properly restrained and sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Two male adults in the Dodge truck were transported by ambulance.

The highway was closed for several hours on Tuesday while investigators worked at the scene of the crash.
