Police in Peoa ask for home camera footage after alleged abduction attempt
"We don't believe there's a current threat to the public regarding this particular incident," said Sotelo.
Update 9/17 at 12:11 p.m.: Sgt. Felicia Sotelo of the Summit County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that while the call came in as an attempted kidnapping, it was determined that there were no elements of an attempted kidnapping.
“We don’t believe there’s a current threat to the public regarding this particular incident,” said Sotelo.
Because the “suspicious activity” investigation is ongoing, that is all the information the Sheriff’s office could provide.
PEOA, Utah – The Summit County Sheriff’s Office is investigating suspicious activity in Peoa after reports of an attempted child abduction. A flyer detailing the incident is circulating on social media.
On Friday afternoon, deputies responded to a call after two boys on bikes were reportedly surrounded by several men on Woodenshoe Lane. The incident, which occurred around 4:30 p.m., prompted a search of the area by law enforcement.
According to a flyer posted in the private Facebook group “Moms of Park City, UT,” the boys were riding ahead of their mother when the men allegedly exited a vehicle and approached them. The flyer claims the men, dressed in dark clothing, may have been scared off when one boy screamed and their mother approached. The group then fled in a dark-colored car.
The sheriff’s office clarified that the flyer was not authorized by them. Despite searching, deputies did not locate anyone matching the descriptions given.
Chief Deputy Kacey Bates emphasized that while the event has been labeled as “suspicious,” it has not been confirmed as an attempted abduction. “This doesn’t mean it didn’t happen, but we are actively investigating,” Bates said.
Residents of Woodenshoe Lane are being asked to check home security cameras for any footage from Friday between 4:20 and 4:35 p.m. Anyone who witnessed anything suspicious is urged to contact the Sheriff’s Office.
The flyer describes the vehicle as a dark blue or gray Toyota Highlander, and the suspects as men with short, cropped hair, wearing dark clothing, mostly tank tops. The driver was described as having short, light-colored or gray hair.
Anyone with information should call Summit County dispatch at 435-615-3601.
