Utah’s Hunter Woodhall prepares for Paris Paralympics as wife Tara Davis-Woodhall wins gold in Olympic longjump
PARIS — Tara Davis-Woodhall won the gold medal in Longjump in Paris on Thursday at the Olympics. Next, she hopes her husband Hunter, from Utah, can match her medal in the field with one of his own on the track in the Paris Paralympics.
Tara looked right into the NBC tv camera in her post race interview and said, “We’ll be back. Hey, this is not the end of the Olympic season. We have the Paralympics in two weeks. Make sure you guys are watching. Tune in. Hunter’s gonna do something crazy.”
She ran right over to her husband in the stands when she learned she was victorious and jumped up into his arms where they embraced and cheered and shed a tear together.
The three-time Paralympian was raised in Syracuse, UT. Hunter had his legs amputated at age 11.
He’ll try to match or best his bronze medal from the Tokyo Paralympics in Paris in the 400 meter running race in a couple weeks.
Tara, who grew up in California, also said in that interview, ” I dreamed of this moment, and I’ve been saying 8-08, that’s the date of the Olympics, 8-08, that’s my day in the Olympics. I have it written everywhere, and when I found out that I was jumping at 8 p.m. it was eight, eight, eight and that’s just like a God-given sign. You know, those are some angel numbers. And it’s like, I can’t believe it, I can’t believe it. I worked so hard this season to get to just this moment right here, to be undefeated, that was one of my goals, and I told myself, no one will outwork me this year, and I put something so far out there that no one could touch.”
