Summit County deputy honored with Medal of Valor after deadly confrontation
SUMMIT COUNTY, Utah — Deputy Norton of the Summit County Sheriffs office was recognized with a Medal of Valor for his extraordinary bravery during a dangerous confrontation with a suspect. The suspect, armed with a three-foot weighted metal pipe, charged at Norton after a high-speed pursuit. Norton, responding to the immediate threat, fired several shots to incapacitate the suspect, ensuring his own safety and preventing further harm.
Following the incident, Norton displayed remarkable composure by immediately providing life-saving medical assistance to the suspect until additional help arrived. The suspect died from injuries sustained during the incident.
Suspect shot and killed following police pursuit through Summit and Wasatch County
