SNAPPED: Perseid meteor shower collides with Northern lights above Park City Monday morning

PARK CITY, Utah — In the early hours of Monday morning, the Perseid meteor shower was forecast to peak and in a rare interstellar spectacle it was accompanied by the Northern Lights (aurora borealis), all visible from Park City.

The 2024 Perseid meteor shower peaked on the night of August 11-12, with optimal viewing available for a few days before and after. Visible annually from mid-July to late August, this year’s peak coincided with a 50% illuminated moon, which set around midnight, offering dark skies until dawn for ideal meteor watching.
