Deer Creek Reservoir under health watch as toxic algae spreads
WASATCH COUNTY, Utah — The Wasatch County Health Department has issued a health watch for Deer Creek Reservoir following the discovery of harmful algae in the Charleston Day Use Area.
Residents and visitors are advised to avoid the following activities:
- Drinking the water
- Swimming
- Jet/water skiing
- Wading
- Allowing dogs in the water
Cyanobacteria, commonly known as blue-green algae, are aquatic bacteria that can produce toxins harmful to humans and animals. These toxins can cause serious health issues, including damage to the kidney, liver, or nervous system.
